This is a common question, and rest assured, the dressing has not gone bad. Our dressings have been shelf-life tested by SGS Canada and the Sesame Soy Vinaigrette has no chemical change for up to 11 months unrefrigerated.
The substance you see floating in the bottle is actually fresh Ontario honey. Because we don’t use added preservatives or mixing agents, natural separation can occur. It’s completely normal and nothing to be concerned about.
We’re often asked about the black substance at the bottom of the bottle or why our Balsamic Vinaigrette sometimes feels thick or hard.
First things first... do not refrigerate the dressing! We use aged Modena balsamic vinegar, which is naturally thick and rich. That’s the dark substance you see settling at the bottom. We also blend in fresh Ontario honey, adding even more body and richness.
These high-quality ingredients with no preservatives can cause the vinaigrette to thicken or seem hard to pour at times, but that’s totally normal. Just give the bottle a really good shake and enjoy! It hasn’t gone bad. It is just real food, made the real way.
The dressings came alive through our catering division, We Cater To You which was established in July 2002. Our bistro, Merci Mon Ami, opened its doors in January 2008 and our new dressing division was established in 2020. The demand for the dressings and sauces became so big that we needed to branch it out.
